If you click the 'Docs' icon in the top left corner, it will redirect you to this page where you can view all of your recently viewed and edited documents as well as the template gallery to give your documents some creativity.
The Search Tool
Within the 'Recent Documents', there is a very useful function of being able to search for your documents within Google Docs, this means you do not have to keep going back to your files and trying to search for them this way. If you teacher has sent you a document that you have opened and need to find it again, you can click on the 'Owned by' tab which drops down and you can select 'Not Owned By Me' which will narrow down your documents making them easier to find.
